An inflatable dinghy tender is a versatile option for your cruising or racing yacht. The tender can be towed or stowed as it can often be deflated and stored. Some tenders can often carry a small outboard motor. Inflation is often done via a foot pump or an electrical pump can be used. Tenders often range from 2 metres to 5 metres long. They usually have a slatted floor board system which can be removed when stowing.

Some smaller inflatable dinghy tenders have an integrated roller which reduces the need for a trolley but does reduce the performance slightly. Larger tenders are often in the form of rigid inflatable dinghies which are often more expensive and less versatile.

The inflatable sailing dinghy is a versatile boat. You can often use them as a tender (sometimes with a small engine) or the mast can be erected to create a simple sailboat. They often have a Bermudan rig which has a mainsail and a jib. The inflatable sailing dinghy has strengthened areas for the included centre board, rudder and mast step. They can often also double as an inflatable life-raft if used as a tender.

There are some catamaran inflatable sailing dinghies on the market. They have a different performance characteristics to the monohulls. They are often less useful as tenders and are more geared towards the sailing performance.

A RIB or rigid inflatable boat is an inflatable dinghy which has a rigid hull encompassed by inflatable tubes or collars. The hull is usually made from wood, GRP or a combination of both. The tubes are often constructed using Polyvinyl chloride, Polyurethane and more commonly Hypalon which is UV resistant, chemical resistant, and resistant to abrasion. RIB dinghies often have an outboard engine and are generally from 2.5 long all the way up to 18 metres long!

RIBS are usually designed to be stable and safe meaning they are very good safety boats, tenders and pleasure craft. Due to their soft nature they can withstand low speed impacts and are great for commercial and leisure use. The RNLI is an organisation which uses many rigid inflatable dinghies.
